Repositery Of Dynasour

Dynasour said some good stuff. Fore people who have problems or not.

Painting from reference is good advice, but great advice is painting from memory. Making your reference be from your visual memory as opposed to something you are observing. It’s not just a technique for experimental work.

>On Bad Art advice, (He must refer to the comic/animation industry, himself being a painter)

Most advice can be useful at certain stages. Most techniques can benefit at least some artists if used intelligently. But:

- using masks and fills instead of organic brush marks
- stressing perfect "lineart" opposed to organic contour and drawing through
-layer separations
-emphasis on efficiency turns to industry practices vs art and risk
-are you learning the language of art or the language of entertainment

The answer in painting is never blend
have it until you are done with the painting. If you need to blend anything then do it just a little

best art advice

-Learn to fail
-value > color. Colors can be anything
-a still image can have movement. Color can move.
-style is the mistakes you leave in
-painting appearances doesn’t need anatomical construction
-painting and reality are two separate things. A painter has to keep it that way
-think of painting as capturing effects of light instead of constructing a figure or object. An image is two dimensional
-defeat perfectionism
-limit yourself, don’t limit inspiration
-sometimes a painting needs to sit around and get funky
-kill your darlings
-don’t do all the work, make your viewer work some of it out
-ambiguousness can be more effective than a narrative
-leave process in
-(digital) don’t zoom in. zoom out
-don’t blend. If you have to, don’t blend until the very end, and very sparingly. An image should work w/o it

đŸ‘‰something cool you can do to shift your drawing away from line dependency is turning the leading edge of the contour into the shadow đŸ‘ˆ

If you think that a lot of "large follower count nsfw artists" are talentless hacks, I hate to inform you about the art world at large. Get good at being a hack! I'm shoveling the s***!
